Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Dog Owners Will Have to Pick Up After Pets
The City Council on Monday passed an ordinance that should make pooper-scoopers a hot item during the holiday shopping rush.
Pet owners who allow their dogs to defecate in a city park, then fail to pick up and discard the droppings, could be fined $50 to $100 under the new law, which was adopted by a 7-0 vote.
Signs explaining the new ordinance will be posted at all city parks, officials said.
Complaints about dog excrement, particularly in Madison and Mabury parks, have increased in recent months, city recreation director Allen E. Doby said in a report to the City Council.
