Wyoming Defensive Back Suspended for Holiday Bowl

Share

Cornerback Richard Sauls has been suspended by Wyoming Coach Paul Roach for undisclosed violations of team rules and will miss next week’s Holiday Bowl, Roach said.

Sauls, a 6-foot, 180-pound freshman from Houston, will not make the trip for the game with Oklahoma State on Dec. 30.

Sauls played in nine games for the 15th-ranked Cowboys, who take an 11-1 record into the bowl game against 12th-ranked Oklahoma State, 9-2. He started twice and had 26 tackles.

The suspension leaves Wyoming with just six defensive backs heading into the Holiday Bowl: starting cornerbacks Eric Coleman and Steve McMillon, starting safeties Rich Miller and Daryl Harris, and backups Steve Mann and George Dozier.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold a Holiday Bowl breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. next Thursday at the Hyatt Islandia Hotel.

Marv Braden, a former Charger assistant coach, will be the guest speaker, and members of each of the Holiday Bowl teams are expected to attend.

Tickets ($10 for adults, $5 for students) are available by calling 585-8664. The deadline for reservations is Tuesday.
