Nearly 20 shots were fired at a school bus carrying nine students and a driver in South-Central Los Angeles on Thursday morning, police reported, but no one was hurt.

Two or three of the shots struck the front and right rear of the bus in the 3000 block of South Crenshaw Boulevard about 7:30 a.m., Sgt. Al Rubalcava said.

The bus, owned by the Laidlaw Co. and under contract to the Los Angeles Unified School District, was taking the students to Audubon Junior High School and to Crenshaw High School, district spokesman Don Coleman said.

Rubalcava said a youth suddenly appeared and began firing at the bus. The driver, Marvin Kidd, reportedly said that he saw three young males and that one of them shouted to the others that they had the wrong vehicle.

Police still had no suspects late Thursday. Rubalcava could not say whether the incident was gang related.
