CITY SECTION FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS : Carter, Kennedy Romp to Win
Ontiwaun Carter rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns to lead Kennedy High to a 25-7 upset of Manual Arts in a City Section 4-A Division opening-round playoff game Wednesday night at Gardena High.
Carter, who rushed 23 times, carried 10 times for 54 yards on the game’s first drive, setting up Tavaras Logie’s eight-yard touchdown pass to Ryan McGrath. Carter later ran for touchdowns of 30 and 52 yards as the Golden Cougars opened a 19-0 lead.
Kennedy’s defense allowed just 47 yards through three quarters, and 91 for the game. Manual Arts (4-7) scored its touchdown when James Dixon caught a tipped pitch from quarterback Ceabron Dickson and ran 30 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Logie completed seven of 10 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns, both to McGrath. Jason Rosen had a game-high three receptions for 104 yards.
The win advances Kennedy (5-6) into next week’s quarterfinals against Carson (8-1), which had an opening-round bye.
