The Sunkist Invitational track and field meet is offering a $100,000 bonus to an athlete who can break the men’s or women’s world indoor mile record in the meet Jan. 19.

Athletes scheduled to compete are Paula Ivan of Romania, the 1988 Olympic gold medalist at 1,500 meters, and PattiSue Plumer, who this year set the American record at 5,000 meters. In the men’s race are 1988 U.S. Olympians Steve Scott and Jeff Atkinson.

The men’s indoor record is held by Eamonn Coghlan at 3 minutes 49.79 seconds, and the women’s mark is held by Doina Melinte at 4:18.86.
