COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Runs Winning Streak to 16

Rancho Santiago College extended its season-opening victory streak to 16 games on Wednesday with a 94-58 victory over Los Angeles Trade Tech in the first round of the Rancho Santiago Holiday tournament.

Corie Blount had 15 points and Matt Lien 14 for Rancho Santiago, the state’s top-ranked team.

Gene Altamirano added 13 points and seven rebounds and Mo Warner had 10 points and six rebounds for Rancho Santiago, which plays Mt. San Antonio at 7 tonight in a semifinal game.

James Dixon had 16 points for Trade Tech (3-13), which plays Marymount at 3 p.m. in a consolation-round game.

In another Rancho Santiago tournament game:

Long Beach 94, Saddleback 81--Long Beach had five players in double figures as Aaron Adams had 24 to lead the Vikings (9-9).

Mike Jackson added 19, Rob Goodman 17, Stephen Smith 14 and Lantz Simpson 11 for Long Beach, which led at halftime, 50-38.

Terrell Malone had 26 and Charles Lockard 25 for Saddleback (5-9). Sean Keyes added 11 for Saddleback, which plays Walla Walla of Washington tonight at 5 in a consolation-round game.

Long Beach plays Santa Monica in a semifinal game tonight at 9.

In the first round of the San Diego Mesa tournament:

Imperial Valley 73, Orange Coast 55--Imperial Valley led at halftime, 42-26, and was never threatened in the second half. Imperial Valley (17-0) and Rancho Santiago are the only two undefeated teams in Southern California. Scott DeStefano had 15 points and Chip Hanlon added 14 for Orange Coast (11-3).
