THE SIDELINES : Ex-Cal State Fresno Coach Dies
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at Ft. Washington Country Club for Harold (Hal) Beatty, former Cal State Fresno athletic director, coach and administrator who died last weekend at the age of 80.
Beatty died Saturday at his home.
He joined the Cal State Fresno physical education department in 1937 as a football, basketball and track coach. In 1947, Beatty was appointed dean of men, a post he held for nine years before being named athletic director. He resigned as athletic director in 1972 to resume full-time teaching, and in 1979 he retired from the university to concentrate on the Bulldog Foundation’s fund-raising efforts for the school.
