ON THE SIDELINES : McDowell OKs Braves Contract
Center fielder Oddibe McDowell has agreed to a one-year, $690,000 contract with the Atlanta Braves, avoiding salary arbitration that was scheduled for today in New York.
McDowell can earn another $60,000 in incentives, General Manager Bobby Cox said of the agreement reached Saturday.
McDowell had filed an arbitration figure of $850,000. The Braves had countered with an offer of $650,000. The case was scheduled to be presented at an arbitration hearing in New York today.
McDowell batted .304 with 7 home runs, 56 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases in 76 games with the Braves last season after being acquired from the Cleveland Indians on July 21.
McDowell, 27, hit only .222 with 3 homers in 69 games with Cleveland.
