Heurung Leads Start to Finish at Ventura Raceway

Mark Heurung of Ventura took advantage of the pole position and led wire to wire to win the 12-lap Street Stock oval main event at Ventura Raceway on Friday night.

Heurung’s victory was his second main-event win of the season. Ventura’s Tom Stephens and Don Green finished second and third.

After demolishing the front end of his car in an earlier heat race, Oxnard’s Jim Jewett came back to win the Mini Stock 20-lap oval main event, edging Ventura’s Chris Raschke by a car length. Rock Ake of Moorpark finished third.

Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Richard Webster of Camarillo and Jeff Drake of Fillmore battled door to door for five laps before Kruseman took command on Lap 6 in winning the 10-lap Mini Stock figure-eight main event.

Mini Stock eight-lap heat-race winners were Ken Hewitt of Moorpark, Kevin Parker of Ventura and Raschke. Port Hueneme’s Jim Firsich and Green drove to heat-race victories in the Street Stock division.
