STATE : Ex-Priest Hired to Counsel Gays
The San Francisco school board has hired a gay former Roman Catholic priest to counsel homosexual students.
“This program will send a message that all people are important no matter who they are,” said Kevin Gogin, whose hiring was approved Tuesday night.
In addition to individual counseling sessions, Gogin will refer students to community resources and work with district staff who teach AIDS and drug prevention. He also will help coordinate a district-wide campaign to help eradicate prejudice against gay and lesbian students.
