2 Killed, 8 Hurt in Crash After Chase by Deputies
At least two people were killed late Friday and eight others were injured, including one sheriff’s deputy, in a Boyle Heights traffic accident after a pursuit of drive-by shooting suspects, city fire officials said.
Details were sketchy, but the crash shortly before 11 p.m. occurred at First and Mott streets, fire officials said.
Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a shooting, apparently in the 3200 block of Winter Street, before the pursuit and crash, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The injured deputy was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sheriff’s Department spokesman Roger Hom said the deputy’s injuries did not appear to be serious.
The identities of the dead and injured were not immediately available. Hom said homicide detectives were investigating.
