Canyon Country Canyon 21, Bishop Amat 20--Rob Landtiser blocked a 33-yard field-goal attempt by Steve Molina with 58 seconds left to preserve the victory for the Cowboys in a Division I quarterfinal game at Canyon.
Canyon, which advanced to a semifinal game for the eighth consecutive year, had taken its first lead midway through the fourth quarter when senior tailback David McDivitt ran 62 yards for a touchdown. Matt George’s extra point made it 21-20 with only 6:52 left.
Bishop Amat drove to the 11-yard line before giving way to Molina, who had already made field goals of 27 and 41 yards. A delay of game penalty on Bishop Amat made it a 33-yard attempt and Landtiser, rushing from the right side, deflected the kick.
Bishop Amat tailback Scott Fields gained 148 yards in 33 carries.
Esperanza 31, Leuzinger 7--Jarod Smith rushed for 278 yards in 16 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Aztecs in a Division III quarterfinal game at Lawndale.
Smith carried only four times in the second half, but scored three touchdowns and netted 159 yards.
Lompoc 51, Glenn 6--Lompoc running back Napolean Kaufman rushed for 203 yards in 14 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Braves in a Division VII game at Lompoc.
On his first carry, Kaufman broke loose for a 59-yard touchdown run. He also had scoring runs of 39 and 11 yards.
Lompoc’s Jerome Hunt returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown.
Hawthorne 17, Loara 9--Hawthorne scored 17 points in the final 9:54 to win a Division III quarterfinal game at Glover Stadium in Anaheim.
