HARRY SHEARER

In regards to Harry Shearer’s “In the Holiday Spirit” (Dec. 9), let me say this: I work for a financial institution in Los Angeles, and last Halloween my co-workers outdid themselves in lurid and suggestive costumes. I, however, chose to dress in my everyday shirt and tie. When asked by customers what I was supposed to be dressed as, I replied, Charles Keating. I got a few laughs and a few impolite stares, but I considered my answer to be a sarcastic reply to a muddled and misunderstood holiday best left to children.

Humor prevailed at day’s end when customers votes were counted for the best costume prize.

I won. Go figure.
