FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. —
A recent 20-run defeat kept Methodist College from overconfidence after scoring 15 in the first inning.
But the runs kept coming--an NCAA-record 43 in all--for a 43-0 baseball victory Thursday over Maryville, Tenn.
The previous NCAA record was set by Virginia Tech in a 42-3 victory against King College 1902.
The previous lower division record of 37 runs was set by Bates (Division III) against Thomas, Me., in 1985 and matched by Washburn (Division II) against Mid-American Nazarene in 1988.
Methodist and Maryville compete in Division III.
