Newport Airman Killed in Gulf Action
Air Force Capt. Arthur Galvan of Newport Beach was one of a dozen servicemen the Pentagon confirmed Friday as casualties in the Persian Gulf War.
Galvan’s family in Orange County had been notified March 5 that the 33-year-old bombing navigator on an AC-130 Spectre was believed dead. But they still hoped he might somehow be found alive.
Capt. Galvan was among 14 crew members on the plane when it was shot down Jan. 31 during the battle of Khafji.
In his school days, Galvan was a second-string quarterback at Costa Mesa’s Estancia High School.
Galvan, who was stationed in Navarre, Fla., is survived by his wife and 12-year-old son, and his parents.
