STAGE
A Happy Camper: British actor Jeremy Irons, in New York to host the Tony Awards, says he likes visiting the Big Apple and seeing his theater friends. “New York always feels like more of a theater town than London,” he says. He also finds more people-recognition of a stage actor in New York than in London. An actor, he says, can “own the town of New York for your short moment. Not in London. There you have to be in your 80s and get a knighthood before you get anywhere near that.” Irons’ co-host for the Tonys on Sunday (on CBS) will be Julie Andrews.
