New Director Named at Foothill Transit

Roger Chapin, deputy executive director of Foothill Transit, has been named executive director for the transit zone.

He replaces William Forsythe, who will remain as a consultant. Before joining Foothill, Chapin was with Omnitrans, the public transit agency in San Bernardino County.

Foothill Transit provides bus service for portions of the San Gabriel Valley.

Vernette Pemberton of Hacienda Heights has been elected the first woman president of the La Puente Lions Club, a service organization.

Other officers are Don Hughes, Phil Moyer, Manny Garcia, Richard Nitcher, Cliff Sterling, Ron Dunbar, Paul Gonzales, Ed Hirning, Bill Murray, Rafael Cifuentes and Clint Dunn.

Hilda Solis of El Monte has been appointed to the county Commission on Automobile Liability by Supervisor Gloria Molina.

The commission makes recommendations on consumer education and methods for reducing auto insurance costs. Solis is director of the California Student Opportunity and Access Program in the Whittier Union High School District and a member of the board of trustees of Rio Hondo College.

Arcadia firefighters Andy Troncale, Mike Clark, Jeff Lee, Mike Stratton and Alex Knudsen chomped down 170 ribs, beating 12 other Arcadia teams in Tony Roma’s restaurant’s seventh annual rib-eating contest.

The five will compete in a regional contest Aug. 11 in West Covina.

The June 30 Arcadia rib feast raised $3,250 for the Starlight Foundation, a nonprofit international organization that grants wishes to seriously ill children.
