ENEMY TURF: “Yo! MTV Raps,” eat your heart out. Public Enemy says it will debut “Can’t Truss It,” the first single from its upcoming album, Sept. 5 on (gasp!) “Late Night With David Letterman.” The band plans to perform live, backed by Paul Shaffer’s band. Titled “Apocalypse ‘91: The Enemy Strikes Black,” the album is loaded with incendiary material, including a pair of media-oriented attacks, “A Letter to the New York Post” and “How to Kill a Radio Consultant.” The album also includes PE’s recent Anthrax collaboration on “Bring the Noise” and a rare B-side, “Get the (Expletive) Outta Dodge.” . . . LL Cool J doing “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?” It’s just one of the tantalizing selections from “Simply Mad About the Mouse,” an upcoming Sony CD and Buena Vista home video release that features a wide variety of popsters covering classic Disney songs (with more of a pop slant than Hal Wilner’s similar 1989 A&M; Records effort). Other highlights: Billy Joel performs “When You Wish Upon a Star,” Ric Ocasek does “Zip a Dee Doo Dah” and Harry Connick Jr. handles “The Bare Necessities.”
