BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Felix Comes Off the Disabled List

Share

Junior Felix was activated off the disabled list Sunday and inserted into the lineup in right field, his first appearance since June 19 and his first start at home since May 26. Felix dropped the first fly ball hit to him for a two-base error, but he compensated with two singles and a run batted in.

Felix, who was on a 20-day rehabilitation assignment with Class-A Palm Springs because of a strained right calf muscle, took the roster spot of infielder Bobby Rose, who went on the disabled list because of soreness in his right shoulder.

Fernando Valenzuela, pitching for triple-A Edmonton, gave up nine runs on eight hits in one inning-plus against Calgary. Valenzuela, making his sixth start at the triple-A level, faced 13 batters overall and failed to record an out in the second inning.

Dave Winfield was the designated hitter for the second successive day and Dave Parker sat for the second straight day, the first time each of those events has occurred. Winfield hopes they’re not signs of things to come. “No one’s talked about anything. I think it’s just three lefties (starting for Boston in this series) and Junior Felix coming back,” said Winfield, whose RBI-double Sunday tied him with Harmon Killebrew for 18th place on the career RBI list with 1,584.

. . . The Angels were 6-0 at home against the Red Sox, their first home sweep of a season series from Boston aside from the strike-shortened 1981 season.
