SIGNING OFF: We knew Don Was, of Was (Not Was) fame, was a hot producer, but this is ridiculous. He has three albums in the Billboard Top 10, having produced all of Bonnie Raitt’s album, five tracks on Bob Seger’s album and one song on Paula Abdul’s album. It’s encouraging to see he’s still producing lesser-known artists too. His future plans include studio work with Israeli singer Ofra Haza, Algerian singer Cheb Khaled and (how could he refuse!) Ringo Starr. . . . It’s amazing what a few Tony Awards will do for an original cast recording. Though “The Will Rogers Follies” opened on Broadway last May, Columbia Records is just now releasing the show’s score, thanks perhaps to the show’s Tony for best musical. Due out this week, the original cast recording features music by Cy Coleman and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. . . . And, our Fave Band Name of the Week? Crash Test Dummies, whose new album, “The Ghosts That Haunt Me,” is out on Arista Records.
