The Indianapolis Colts showed no life, and the Cleveland Browns showed no mercy.

“It was one of those days a lot of things went well for us,” Cleveland Coach Bill Belichick said.

Kevin Mack caught one touchdown pass from Bernie Kosar and ran 51 yards for another touchdown Sunday as the Browns routed the Colts, 31-0, scoring after each of the Colts’ four turnovers.

“It was an overall good team game for us,” Kosar said. “The defense gave us good position, and we took advantage of that early.”

Cleveland (6-7) put the game away with four consecutive touchdowns in the second quarter as the Colts fell to 1-12. The score was 31-0 at halftime.

Said Indianapolis Coach Rick Venturi: “Cleveland did something they’ve done all year. They got turnovers, they forced turnovers, they capitalized on every one of them and, basically, took us out of the game.”

The Browns lead the NFL in takeaway-giveaway margin, which is now at a plus-20. The Colts’ takeaway-giveaway margin is a minus-four.

Mack rushed for 69 yards, and Joe Morris rushed for 68.

Kosar completed 18 of 23 passes for 189 yards.

Colt quarterback Jeff George had two passes intercepted, including one returned 20 yards by James Jones for the final touchdown.

“I don’t know what we can do differently,” said George, who completed 10 of 21 passes for 100 yards but was sacked six times for losses of 72 yards.

“We’re just getting beat up. I’m getting beat up. We’re struggling, and there doesn’t seem to be anything we can do to stop it.”

Colt running back Eric Dickerson, playing for the first time after a three-week suspension for insubordination, rushed for a season-high 117 yards and moved past Jim Brown into third place in NFL career rushing with 12,367.

It was the 62nd game with 100 or more rushing yards in Dickerson’s 124-game career.

Most of Dickerson’s yardage was gained during the final drive long after the outcome was decided.
