Mullen’s Second 4-Goal Game in Row Helps Penguins Beat Maple Leafs, 12-1

Joe Mullen scored four goals for the second consecutive game Thursday night at Pittsburgh to lead the Penguins to a 12-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Monday night at Uniondale, N.Y., the veteran right wing scored four goals in a 6-3 victory over the Islanders.

In becoming the first Penguin to score four goals in consecutive games, Mullen, 34, increased his total to 25 goals. Playing on a line with the Penguins’ two top scorers, Mario Lemieux and Kevin Stevens, has helped. But Mullen had big seasons with St. Louis and Calgary before joining the Penguins last season. He had 51 goals in 1988-89 with Calgary.

“With all the goals I’ve scored in the last two games, I’ve missed a couple of easy shots,” Mullen said. “Playing with these two guys doesn’t hurt.”
