Three boys were in custody Monday on suspicion of fatally shooting a teen-age boy and critically wounding his cousin in Pomona, police said.

The shootings occurred in the 1700 block of West Phillips Boulevard, said Pomona Police Lt. Archie Johnson. Paramedics took the wounded teens to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center after Sunday night’s 10:30 attack, Johnson said.

Frank Alvarez, 15, of Pomona died at the medical center and Michael Falcon, 16, of Ontario was listed in critical condition there, Johnson said.

Three juveniles, whose ages were not available, were apprehended in connection with the attack, Johnson said. They were being held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey. “The victims were walking in the area when a group approached them,” Johnson said. “They were shot with a shotgun. We don’t have a motive, and we don’t know if it was gang-related.”
