Burger Stand’s Owner Held on Drug Charges

Police arrested the owner of a hamburger stand near Glendale High School on Friday on suspicion of selling cocaine to some of his fast-food customers.

Officers arrested Gerald E. Noonan, 53, of Glendale and seized a half-ounce of powdered cocaine, a scale and packaging materials in a storage area near the front counter of Jerry’s Place, 143 S. Verdugo Road, said Glendale Police Lt. Don MacNeil.

“Our information was that if you ordered up cocaine, you got it in the bag with your hamburger and french fries,” MacNeil said. “This was an over-the-counter drug business.”

Noonan, booked on suspicion of possessing cocaine with intent to distribute it, was being held in the City Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Noonan’s wife, who was present when the raid occurred, was also arrested, but investigators said they did not know whether charges would be sought against her.
