Pop Album Chart : Billy Ray Still Giving His All

Share

Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Some Gave All” keeps getting stronger, racking up its fourth week on top of the Billboard magazine pop chart, confounding all the critics who insist the album is awful. But it does support the relatively new notion that country-music sex symbols can sell records--lots of records. Cyrus may be the most marketable sex symbol ever to hit country music. Wilson Phillips’ “Shadows and Light” continues to slip, dropping to No. 6. Unless the pop vocal trio comes up with a big hit single, this album may ultimately be a commercial disappointment. One of the fastest-rising albums on the chart is “MTV: Party to Go, Vol. 2,” which jumped from No. 52 to No. 34.

* Hard-rocking Firehouse is off to a red-hot start on the pop album chart with “Hold Your Fire,” which premiered at No. 23.
