PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Vardell Signs With Browns
First-round draft choice Tommy Vardell of Stanford signed with the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns, citing team policy, did not release details of the contract.
The 6-foot-1, 238-pound running back gained 1,084 yards and scored 20 touchdowns in his senior season at Stanford. He was the ninth pick overall in this year’s draft and the first running back chosen.
Running back Gaston Green signed a series of one-year contracts with the Denver Broncos, who did not release details.
Green, 5-11 and 192 pounds, earned his first Pro Bowl berth last year after leading the Broncos with 1,037 rushing yards.
Sterling Sharpe refused to comment on reports that he signed a secretly renegotiated 10-year contract worth $15.5 million with the Green Bay Packers.
Mike Reinfeldt, the Packers’ chief financial officer, also refused to comment.
