Sounding very much like one of those phone company commercials, Irvine girls’ cross-country Coach Randy Rossi assessed the results of Saturday’s Woodbridge Invitational this way:
“It’s just another day in Orange County.”
True enough. With the noteworthy exceptions of the boys’ teams from Dana Hills and La Habra (competing in Fresno) and Edison’s girls (sitting it out), most the county’s top teams ran at Woodbridge. However, very little was settled definitively.
Today offers a chance to see how two of Orange County’s best girls’ teams compare.
Irvine, ranked No. 2 in the first county poll, plays host to No. 3 Corona del Mar at 3 p.m. at Irvine.
Corona del Mar, employing textbook pack running, is fresh from an impressive victory over Laguna Hills in the Division IV race Saturday. Irvine squeezed past Esperanza on the strength of a faster No. 6 runner, breaking a 65-65 tie.
