Heart Assn. Seeks Science Students

Share

College students interested in careers in science research can spend next summer working with medical scientists through a program offered by the American Heart Assn.

The Ventura County chapter has applications for the Student Research Program, begun in 1957. Last summer, 75 students from around the state, including Ventura County, participated in the 10-week program.

“I would particularly like to encourage students of the basic sciences to apply because of their importance to medical research,” said Mike Boggs, chairman of the local chapter. “Heart disease is still the No. 1 killer, and encouragement of gifted science students to consider careers in cardiovascular research is vital.”

Under the program, students are assigned to work at medical institutions in the state. Each receives a $2,500 stipend.

Applicants must be juniors or seniors next fall and be enrolled full time in a California college or university. The deadline for requesting applications is Dec. 15. For information, call 485-4300.
