Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Search for Sailor on Solo Trip Ends

The Coast Guard has ended its six-day search for Mike Plant, a yachtsman missing since Oct. 27 on a solo Atlantic crossing, officials said in New York. The last contact with Plant, 41, of Jamestown, R.I., was believed to have been a beacon signal picked up Oct. 27 by the Canadian Coast Guard. It was too weak to pinpoint. Plant, who has made three solo trips around the world, set out Oct. 16 from New York to Les Sables d’Olonne in France in a 60-foot sloop.
