CAMARILLO : City Council Rejects Pet Cleanup Law

Share

The Camarillo City Council rejected a motion to make pet owners responsible for cleaning up after their animals when they are on public and private property.

In a 3-2 vote, council members said it would be difficult to enforce such a law.

“If you’re going to enforce a law effectively, you need to devote manpower to it,” City Manager Bill Little said. “We don’t like to put laws on the books that we can’t enforce.”

Instead, the council asked the city staff to devise a public education program to encourage pet owners to clean up after their pets.
