Readers Rate, Rake Music, Theater, Art and Dance : Pop Music

Readers responded with sincerity, wit and, occasionally, vehemence to our queries for their assessments of the best and worst in pop music, theater, art, classical music and dance in Orange County in 1992. Here is some of what they had to say:

The most disappointing event has to be, hands down, the George Jones/Conway Twitty concert at the Celebrity Theatre.

This was my first concert in Orange County, the second concert I have ever attended. The atmosphere was very nice, but it started going downhill fast. Jones came on first (and) sang very well--all 40 minutes! Even after he stated that he would “sing till 2 or 3 in the morning.” Many songs were cut short, many popular songs not sung, even with repeated requests from the audience. But time was allowed for plugging a George Jones brand dog food!

Then it got worse (with) Conway coughing and talking, halfway singing and calling it quits after less than 20 minutes on stage. I definitely feel ripped off.

P.S. Cost of three tickets was $108 and we were in the second to the last row.
