Marine Killed at Pendleton Identified
Military officials on Friday released the name of a 20-year-old Marine who was killed on the beach Thursday during a routine training exercise.
Pvt. Byron E. Woods of Oklahoma City was riding in an amphibious assault vehicle with a 19-year-old Marine when the vehicle overturned on an unidentified stretch of beach at 7:23 p.m.
Woods died at the scene. The second Marine, whose name was not released, suffered a bruised leg in the accident and was treated and released from Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital.
Both were students assigned to Assault Amphibian School at the base.
The accident is under investigation by military authorities.
