Even when La Quinta has Chris Clark beaten, the Aztecs can’t seem to beat him.

John Guthrie flared a single into right field in the 10th inning, knocking in two runs to give Kennedy a 3-2 victory Tuesday at Kennedy. It gave the Fighting Irish (17-8-1, 11-2) at least a share of the Garden Grove League baseball title. They have a one-game lead over La Quinta (20-5, 10-3) with one game remaining.

It was the fourth time in two years that Clark, a junior, has beaten the Aztecs. Earlier this season, he pitched a four-hitter against La Quinta. This time, Clark (6-2) gave up only two hits and struck out seven in 10 innings.

Still, he trailed, 2-1, going into the bottom of the 10th, as the Aztecs took advantage of four Kennedy errors to score two unearned runs.

The Fighting Irish loaded the bases with two outs in the 10th, bringing up Guthrie. He blooped a 1-1 pitch just out of the reach of first baseman Zane Parkin.

It was only the second loss of the season for junior pitcher Jim Livernois (10-2), both have been to Clark. Livernois allowed five hits and struck out nine.
