Veteran R & B singer Gladys Knight will appear tonight at the Celebrity Theatre in Anaheim in a performance to benefit the Orange County Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

“We’re a nonprofit, public service organization,” said chapter member Sylvia Turner.

“The main focus of the organization is to do public service works in education, social action, politics and business. We try to raise anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 per year for scholarships. We’re using the proceeds from this show for scholarships for minority students,” Turner said.

As the leader of Gladys Knight & the Pips from 1957-89, Knight charted hits including “I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” “Midnight Train to Georgia,” “I’ve Got to Use My Imagination” and “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me.”
