Booth Wins Junior Event at Mission Hills

Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza won the girls’ division of the Mission Hills Desert junior golf tournament Thursday at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, shooting a final-round one-under 71 to finish at par 216 for 54 holes.

Booth finished five strokes ahead of runner-up Keri Cornelius of Scottsdale, Ariz. Alicia Allison of Santa Ana shot one-over 73 Thursday to finish at 14-over 230.

John Park of Fullerton won the boys’ 13-14 division, shooting a 75 for an eight-over 224, one stroke ahead of Mission Viejo’s Stephen Wagner, who shot a final-round 78.

Michael Walton of Palm Desert won the boys’ 15-18 division by one stroke, finishing at four-under 212.

The Salsa soccer team acquired forward Phillip Gyau, former MVP of the American Professional Soccer League, from the Colorado Foxes for future considerations.

Gyau, who led the Maryland Bays to the APSL title during his MVP season of 1990, will be available for the Salsa match Saturday (8:05 p.m.) against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Stadium. Gyau, 27, also played with the Rowdies in 1992 and the Bays from 1989-91. He has had limited playing time with Colorado this season.

Todd Anderson, a 6-foot-6 forward from Cerritos College, signed to play basketball with Southern California College, Vanguards’ Coach Bill Reynolds said Thursday.

Anderson, who played at Long Beach St. Anthony’s, averaged 16 points and 9.2 rebounds, and earned all-conference and team MVP honors.
