WEEKEND TV : Holiday Focus on Concerts, Tennis
Fourth of July concerts and Wimbledon tennis will be part of this weekend’s holiday TV viewing choices.
The holiday TV concert schedule includes:
* Chris Isaak (“Wicked Game”), Barry White (“Love Theme”), SWV (“Weak”), Bee Gees (“Lonely Days”) and Snow (“Informer”) will perform at a Fourth of July celebration taped in Massachusetts on ABC and hosted by Jeffrey Osbourne, today at 11:30 p.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42.
* Country star Kenny Rogers is featured in “Kenny Rogers: Working America,” today at 8 p.m. on the Family Channel.
* Patriotism reigns in “The I Love America Concert,” with Robert Merrill and the Singing Sergeants offering a musical rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance and holiday-themed songs at an Independence Day concert in Washington, Sunday at 6 p.m. on KOCE Channel 50.
* Rhythm and blues tunes are in order on “Celebrate the Soul of American Music,” with Ruth Brown, Lionel Hampton, Carmen McRae, the O’Jays and Little Anthony and the Imperials, Sunday at 9 p.m. Channel 9.
* John Williams and the Boston Pops present “Pops Goes the Fourth,” Sunday at 4 p.m. on cable’s Arts & Entertainment.
* Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Rita Moreno and pianist Peter Nero headline “A Capitol Fourth,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on KCET Channel 28, 5 p.m. on KVCR Channel 24 and 7 p.m. on KPBS Channel 15.
In sports, the women’s final at Wimbledon will be played today between Germany’s Steffi Graf and the Czech Republic’s Jana Novotna at 8 a.m. on NBC.
On Sunday, it’s an all-American men’s final as Jim Courier faces Pete Sampras on Centre Court at 7:30 a.m. on Channels 4, 36 and 39.
