Rancho Alamitos Hires Girls’ Basketball Coach

Pete Pyle has been hired as the girls’ basketball coach at Rancho Alamitos High School, Athletic Director Dan Rankin said Friday.

Pyle, 30, has been a lower-level coach for the boys’ program at Rancho Alamitos. He replaces Bob Becker, who resigned to take the boys’ varsity job at Pacifica.

Rancho Alamitos was 24-5 last season and lost to Costa Mesa in the Southern Section 3-A championship game.

Roberta Gehlke, a freshman at Mater Dei last year, has been named Division 16 All-American by the United States Volleyball Assn. for the second consecutive year.
