There’s a new trend appearing on MTV: food in group names.

There’s no reason why there shouldn’t be. Things that appeal to your tummy should appeal to your mind. A name is supposed to best describe a rock group, right? But there’s no rock-solid rule that a name can’t have taste (or smell). With America turning to food while still being weight conscientious, there is a psychological link between hearing and tasting.

I’m pretty sure that these names aren’t made up spontaneously. I mean, the group probably didn’t decide it while they were eating. But then again, I can imagine Meat Loaf asking what’s for dinner, the reply “meatloaf,” and then “Hey, that’ll be my name, Meat Loaf.” So maybe there’s a story behind the name, maybe not.

So let’s say for dinner you’re having Meat Loaf, with Cranberries sauce. The Meat Loaf lacks punch, so you throw on some Red Hot Chili Peppers. Then you add a dash of Salt-N-Pepa.

The soup is really hot so you drop in an Ice Cube, while eating a Cracker. Tempted for a snack you eat a box of Lemonheads, and finish dinner off with a refreshing Blind Melon. You’re still hungry so you eat a snack of Smashing Pumpkins seeds and top the whole meal off with Gin Blossoms rather than a Bud Light.

I think you can see my point. So while watching MTV, think about it. Think about how a name makes a group more noticeable. I did, and so should U2.
