Halloween Hits List

If you’re looking to the tube for new and classic All Hallows’ Eve tales to curl your toes and warm your spirits, you’ll have a lot to choose from by the time you’re ready to put on a happy or scary face.

First off, there’s a real trick: At press time, CBS had opted not to air its popular and perennial “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” But we’ve got the treat: You can find Linus in the pumpkin patch on video (for $13 from Peanuts Home Video).

Among the grab-bag of programs airing, there are some other tempting Halloween morsels: Disney’s dark “Gargoyles” premieres on the Disney Channel, Ray Bradbury’s award-winning “The Halloween Tree” will be rebroadcast by TBS (it’s also available on video) and, for those who prefer cute over scary, ABC will rebroadcast “Double, Double Toil and Trouble,” starring the irrepressible Olsen twins of “Full House.”

For the more mature and nostalgic set, Bravo will present the cerebrally creepy “Dead of Night,” the now-classic “Rosemary’s Baby” and the more lighthearted “I Married a Witch.”

The ABC Family Movie: Rebroadcast of “Double, Double, Toil and Trouble” in which Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (“Full House”) try to save their family home by outwitting a mean witch. Saturday, 8 p.m.

Boy Meets World: Cory thinks he’s turning into a teen-age werewolf when he starts sprouting hair. Phyllis Diller guest stars as Madame Ouspenskaya. Friday, 8:30 p.m.

Family Matters: Sir Steve, the Royal Duke of Urkel (Jaleel White), battles vampires at eerie Winslow Castle. Friday, 8 p.m.

Halloween Jam III: Jerry Lee Lewis headlines the third fright-night bash featuring top rock, rap and pop acts. Saturday, 11:30 p.m.

Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper: Halloween is fast approaching and Cooper (Mark Curry) goes into the vending-machine business. Friday, 9:30 p.m.

Home Improvement: Al grows so obsessed with his new role as part owner of a hardware store that he blows off a Halloween date with Ilene, and Tim has to scare some sense back into him. Tuesday, 9 p.m.

Roseanne: Roseanne falls for two gender-bending, hair-raising Halloween pranks. Wednesday, 9 p.m.

Step by Step: Cody carves the world’s largest pumpkin and puberty transforms Mark into a hormonal monster. Friday, 9 p.m.

Biography: Viewers can sink their fangs into a profile of “Dracula.” Monday , 5 and 9 p.m. “Biography” also profiles that big misunderstood guy in “Frankenstein: The True Story.” Tuesday, 5 and 9 p.m. Tap, tap, tapping at your TV screen next comes “The Mysterious Edgar Allan Poe.” Thursday, 5 and 9 p.m.

Dead of Night: This 1945 British chiller stars Michael Redgrave. Friday, 5 and 10:30 p.m.

I Married a Witch: Veronica Lake and Fredric March star in this 1942 comedy-fantasy about a Salem-burned witch out to haunt the descendants of the Puritans. Friday, 9 p.m., and Saturday, 10:10 a.m.

Rosemary’s Baby: Roman Polanski’s 1968 horror film stars Mia Farrow. Wednesday, 7 p.m. and midnight, and Oct. 30, 5 and 10 p.m.

South Bank Show: A profile of novelist Clive Baker. Oct. 31, 5 and 10 p.m.

Dave’s World: Based on a story by Dave Barry about an experience with his own son, Tommy (Zane Carney) is hit by a car while trick-or-treating. Oct. 31, 8:30 p.m.

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: As Halloween approaches, Dr. Quinn is compared to Dr. Frankenstein when she helps a disfigured man. Saturday, 8 p.m.

Picket Fences: A young girl and her mother are identified as witches. Friday, 10 p.m.

Tales From the Far Side: Gary Larson’s popular cartoon characters come to TV for the first time in this Halloween special, which offers parodies of familiar spooky tales. Wednesday, 8:30 p.m.

DISCOVERY

Rediscovering America With David Hartman: The premiere show, “Salem Witch Trials,” visits the infamous site, Oct. 31, 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.

FOX

Virtually every series but reality shows on the Fox lineup beginning Tuesday will have a Halloween backdrop. A few highlights:

Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs: Three days of Halloween fun with the Warners and their friends. Friday, 4 p.m.; Saturday, 8 p.m. and Oct. 31 at 4 p.m.

The Simpsons Halloween Marathon: A marathon of all the previous “Simpsons” Halloween shows, with the latest installment, “Treehouse of Horror V,” airing at 8 p.m. Oct. 30, 7 p.m.

Tales From the Crypt: Back-to-back episodes. The first stars Kevin Dillon and Wil Wheaton; the second, Morton Downey Jr. Saturday, 11 p.m.
