THOUSAND OAKS : Friends Will Roast Outgoing Mayor

Share

Intent on honoring--or good-naturedly dishonoring--Thousand Oaks’ longest-serving politician, friends of outgoing Mayor Alex Fiore have scheduled a retirement roast for Nov. 30.

Fiore will step down from his council post next month, after serving three full decades. Already, the mayor has received a shower of accolades, including a rundown of his accomplishments during the “Fiore Moment” at weekly council meetings.

But to some of his biggest fans, the Fiore Moment isn’t enough.

The community banquet in the Hyatt Westlake Plaza hotel will toast Fiore’s years of service with live music, a celebrity master of ceremonies and the roasts.

Roasters include City Manager Grant Brimhall, attorney Chuck Cohen and Chamber of Commerce President Steve Rubenstein. After his buddies jab him with jokes, Fiore will be granted a 15-minute rebuttal.

Tickets to the gala are $40 and must be purchased in advance. For more information, call Barbara Stein at 498-4005.
