Northridge Awaits Its Playoff Fate : Volleyball: Women’s team defeats Cal State Sacramento in regular-season finale.

The Cal State Northridge women’s volleyball team has done its job.

Now its up to the NCAA Division I tournament committee to decide whether the Matadors belong in the 32-team field that will be announced a week from today.

Northridge completed the regular season with a 10-15, 16-14, 15-8, 15-2 victory over host Cal State Sacramento in a nonconference match Saturday night.

Missy Clements had a match-high 23 kills and 16 digs as the Matadors (17-8) won their fifth match in a row and their seventh in the last eight.

“If we win the last two matches of the season, especially with sweeps, I think we have a good shot at the NCAA playoffs,” first-year Northridge Coach Lian Kang Lu said earlier this week. “I think the win over San Diego will really help us.”

Even if the Matadors do not qualify for the NCAA playoffs, they are likely to be invited to the 20-team National Invitational Volleyball Championships at the University of Missouri from Dec. 2-4.

Northridge began its current win streak with a sweep of San Diego on Nov. 2, and followed that with sweeps of UC Irvine and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (twice).

Clements, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, is averaging 6.4 kills a game with a hitting percentage of .382 during the win streak.

Three other Matador players had more than 10 kills against Sacramento (18-12).

Aimee Stone had 17 kills and 15 digs.

Heather Anderson added 14 kills and 19 digs, and Ana Kristich contributed 14 kills, 20 digs and four blocks.

Setter Kathleen Shannon had 63 assists, 10 digs, seven kills and four blocks for Northridge.
