Hancock Rolls Over Ventura, 51-9
On paper, this game looked pretty bad for the Ventura College football team.
On the field, it was even worse.
Ventura ended its season Saturday night with a 51-9 loss to Hancock in a Western State Conference Northern Division game.
The score was ugly, and the stats were uglier.
Ventura had 18 penalties--including eight for personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct--for 175 yards.
The Pirates gave up 447 yards.
Hancock’s Reggie Etheridge gained 157 yards in 21 carries and scored on runs of two, four, 35 and 78 yards.
Quarterback Mick Sitarski completed 15 of 21 for 170 yards a and a touchdown for Hancock (7-3, 6-3 in the conference, 4-1 in the Northern Division), which will likely appear in its first bowl game in 33 years.
Jason Brown completed 13 of 30 passes for 114 yards for Ventura (4-6, 3-5, 0-5). Brown had two passes intercepted.
Ventura linebacker David Davis was ejected in the second quarter for throwing what the referee called a retaliatory punch.
