COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Eggleston Drives Cal Poly Pomona Past SCC

Former Cypress High standout Jessica Eggleston scored 19 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Cal Poly Pomona to an 84-51 victory over Southern California College in the championship game of the Cal Poly Pomona Tournament on Saturday.

Tina Southard led SCC (1-1) with 14 points. Heather Brannan added 11 and four rebounds.

Michelle Kerzie added 16 points and seven rebounds for Cal Poly Pomona (2-0).

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo:

UC Irvine 11, UC Santa Barbara 10--Ofer Horn, a transfer from Santa Barbara, scored the winning goal in the closing seconds for visiting Irvine. Mat Maunz scored four goals to lead the Anteaters, and Tom Davis had 12 saves.

Pepperdine 8, Long Beach State 7--Greg Finley and Joe Mihalow scored two goals each for visiting Long Beach State (5-19). Pepperdine is 15-8.

In Big West Conference volleyball:

Nevada 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Tiffany Neumeier had 14 kills for visiting Nevada (11-22, 5-13), which won, 15-10, 15-13, 15-9, in the season finale for both teams. Jennifer Lipski had 14 kills for the Titans, who finish 1-28, 1-17.

In a consolation game at The Master’s College Tip Off Tournament:

Southern California College 66, San Jose Christian College 65--Brian Carlson had 15 and Dan Hyde had 12 to lead Southern California College (1-1).

Imani Groce had 18 points for San Jose Christian College (0-2).

In exhibition women’s basketball:

UC Irvine 75, Estonia 72--Allah-mi Basheer scored 20 points as host UC Irvine defeated Estonia. Basheer also finished with 11 rebounds.
