Calabasas Wins 2, Stays Unbeaten

The Calabasas High baseball team remained unbeaten after posting a pair of victories Saturday in the final pool-play day of the Bishop Gorman tournament in Las Vegas. the Coyotes defeated Western of Las Vegas, 9-0, and Lehi of Utah, 10-6.

Calabasas (15-0), which collected 10 hits in each game, finished 4-0 and won Division VI of the tournament.

Darin Reisman and Brad Niles led the offense. Each had two hits, including a home run, against Western. Reisman drove in three runs, Niles drove in four. Jared Sandler (5-0) scattered four hits and had four strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Kennedy 9, Burroughs 0-- David Soto pitched a four-hit shut our in the Bishop Gorman tournament and Jon Garland beat Basic, 10-0, earlier in the day, giving the Golden Cougars (14-3) the championship of division VII. Kennedy was crowned overall tournament champion because the Golden Cougars allowed only two runs in four games, the fewest among the seven division champions.

Poly 9, El Dorado 1-- The Parrots, who also lost to San Gorgonio, 2-0, on Saturday, still won Division IV of the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Sylmar 15, Wood River (Ida.)

1--Chris Ruley drove in five runs and dad a pair of doubles for Sylmar (13-3) in the Bishop Gorman tournament. Nick Ramos added a two-run double. Rene Zavala and Alex Ortiz each had run-Scoring doubles.

Alemany 14, Bishop Montgomery 3-- Robbie Rehfeld hit two home runs and Doug Segraves belted a pair of triples to pace a 14-hit attack for Alemany (9-4) in pool play of the St. Paul tournament. Rehfeld homered to lead off the game and added a two-run home run in the third to give him five for the season. Segraves tripled with the bases loaded in the second.

Rudy Pantoja (9-4) gave up four hits over six innings.

Notre Dame 10, Long Beach Jordan 6-- Chris Crowley hit a three-run triple and Sean Hanrahan had a two-run double and a run scoring single for the Knights (8-6-1) in a pool-play game of the St. Paul tournament. Marc Jannone added a solo home run. Shawn Smith (1-1) pitched two innings in relief to earn the victory.

Bell-Jeff 12, Plus x 6-- Catcher David Quintero homered, singled and drove in four runs for Bell-Jeff (11-4) in a pool-play game of the St. Paul tournament at Pius X.

Bell-Jeff, 2-0 in the tournament, will face Providence Monday in its final pool-play game. The division final is Wednesday at Cal State Los Angles.

Rio Mesa 3, Santa Barbara 1-- Charlie Boch hit an inside-the park home run to highlight a three-run fourth inning for Rio Mesa in the final round of the Santa Barbara tournament.

Chad Snyder added a run-scoring-double for the Spartans .

L.A. Baptist 13, La Canada 1-- John Wilson had five RBI’s and went three for four including two home runs for L.A. Baptist (13-1)

Scott Page (6-0) struck out 12, walked two and allowed an unearned run in the seventh as the Knights posted a non league victory at La Canada.

Softball

Saugus 5, Mission Viejo O-- Jamie Gillies struck out nine and pitched a two-hitter against the Diablos in the semifinals of the Woodbridge tournament. Gillies shut out La Palma Kennedy 3-0, in a quarterfinal earlier in the day.

Jeanine Giordano had two doubles and two RBI’s against Kennedy. Teammate Shanon McRoy hit a two-run triple against Mission Viejo.
