PREP ROUNDUP : Mater Dei’s Jordan Wins Playoff in South Coast League Golf Final

Mater Dei’s Scott Jordan won on the second playoff hole to defeat San Clemente’s Jason Gross in South Coast League golf finals at San Luis Rey Downs in Vista.

Both players shot a 10-over-par 154 for 36 holes. Along with Jordan and Gross, Mater Dei’s Brett Parker, Trabuco Hills’ Jordan Woffinden and Dana Hills’ Ryan Olson advanced to the Southern Section playoffs. In team scores, San Clemente finished first with 407 points, followed by Trabuco Hills (410); Mater Dei (414); Dana Hills (422) and Capistrano Valley (425).

In the Empire League finals:

Boyle and Wang tied--El Dorado’s Darren Boyle and Eric Wang of Cypress tied with two-over 73s at Dad Miller in the first round. El Dorado’s Tim Allen is third with a 75.

The top eight finishers advanced to today’s final round.

In Golden West League finals:

Servite 383, Ocean View 397, Tustin 429, Westminster 432--Servite’s Jeff McGraw shot a one-over 143 and Bob Johnson shot a nine-over 151 for Ocean View at Green River. Both players will advance to the Southern Section finals.

In Orange League finals:

Campbell leads--Bruce Campbell of Valencia shot a three-under 140 to the second round of individual finals. The final round will be played today at Los Coyotes with the top four advancing to Southern Section playoffs.

In the Pacific Coast League individual finals:

Necessary wins--Ross Necessary won the finals, shooting 75-75 150 at par-72 Tijeras Creek. Also advancing was Bill Bodensteiner of University (75-78 153), Mike Perry of Estancia (77-79 156) and Andrew Zanzig from Costa Mesa (83-77 160).

In Sea View League tennis:

Corona del Mar 12, Irvine 6--John Cappello won in singles, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2, and Mike Feyka and Raj Shulka won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, in doubles to lead eighth-ranked Corona del Mar (13-4 overall).

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 12, San Clemente 6--Zac Olsen swept in singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for Capistrano Valley (5-12, 3-8).

In Empire League boys’ volleyball:

Valencia 3, Century 0--Rick Black and Asher Schullar each had seven kills for visiting Valencia (12-5, 6-1), which defeated Century, 15-4, 15-3, 15-10, and clinched the league title.

In the Sea View League:

Santa Margarita 3, Newport Harbor 2--Justin DeBlasio had 24 kills and 22 digs to lead Santa Margarita (9-8, 4-5) in its upset of 10th-ranked Newport Harbor, 15-7, 15-10, 10-15, 12-15, 15-6.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 3, Mission Viejo 0--Marc Carrigan had 14 kills in the 15-11, 15-3, 15-6 victory for Mater Dei (9-6, 5-4).
