North Girls Come Back to Beat South in All-Star Game
The inaugural California State High School Women’s Basketball All-Star game was a last opportunity for the best prep seniors in the state to display their skills at the high school level.
For Jodi Parriott of Cerritos Valley Christian it also was her last opportunity to play for mentor and high school Coach Eleanor Dykstra, who coached the South team.
Parriott, a forward, had a team-high 12 points and four assists and was selected MVP of the South team, which lost to the North, 66-54, Sunday at the Bren Center.
Afterward, Parriott tearfully acknowledged Dykstra when accepting her trophy.
“It was nice to have my coach, who taught me everything, on the sideline for my last high school game,” Parriott said.
Through the first half, the South never trailed and led, 34-25, at the break.
Marina’s Shandy Robbins, one of two Orange County players on the South team, scored six points and grabbed three rebounds in the half. She finished with eight points. Jennifer Garrett of Capistrano Valley scored six points and had four rebounds.
The North rallied in the second half, outscoring the South, 41-20, for the victory.
Jamie Redd of San Francisco International Studies High, scored 12 second-half points to lead the North’s comeback.
Justine McMahon of Red Bluff was named MVP of the North. She scored 11 points, eight in the second half.
