JURASSIC PARK: First, there was the movie. Then the exhibit. Now, Universal Studios is building the real thing: Sources say a full-fledged “Jurassic Park” ride and theme park is currently under construction at Universal Studios. . . . Visitors to the attraction, due to open in summer ‘96, will ride a boat through a tropical jungle infested with Tyrannosaurus rexes, raptors and even those nasty spitting creatures. Said one insider: “These are beyond the animatronic dinosaurs you’ve seen before.”

THREE-PEAT: The Cal State Northridge softball team, fueled by Scia Maumausolo’s four home runs, swept San Diego State, 9-0 and 7-2, Wednesday to clinch its third consecutive Western Athletic Conference title (C8). . . . The reward for winning the conference championship is an automatic berth to the NCAA Division I regional tournament. Playoff pairings and sites will be announced Sunday.

CAR TROUBLE: The U. S. move Wednesday against Japanese trade practices (A1) didn’t go over too well with Valley dealers of Japanese autos. . . . Said one local Lexus dealer: “It’s very frustrating because I’ve lived in the Valley all my life and I’m being penalized. (The Japanese) employ a whole lot of Americans in the United States.”

HARDER TO HUSTLE: The war against streetwalkers in the Valley may be expanded. Taking their cue from Hollywood, where a similar program was expanded Wednesday (B1), city prosecutors will try to persuade a Van Nuys judge to let a controversial “mapping program” be enforced around the clock. At the moment--despite concerns from civil libertarians--authorities here are allowed to arrest convicted prostitutes during certain hours for simply walking down a street outlined on a map. If the new program is implemented, the convicted hookers will be banned completely from certain Valley stretches.
