SIGNINGS : Fountain Valley’s Ratledge Picks 49ers

Ed Ratledge, a 6-8 outside hitter for Fountain Valley, has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Long Beach State, 49er Coach Ray Ratelle said Friday.

Ratelle, whose team finished 1995 at 18-9, third in the Pacific Division of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, also announced the 49ers had signed 6-6 middle blocker Gabe Brickey from Clovis Buchanan High.

Jon Habben of Irvine Valley signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at UC Irvine, Anteater Coach Andy Read said.

Habben, a 6-5 outside hitter, was named to the All-Orange Empire Conference second team last season and was a starter on the 1993 Southern Section championship team at Whittier Christian.

Nina Alexander, a three-time all-league forward for Century High, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Vassar College, Century Coach Jeff Watts said.

Alexander, a four-year starter, set 23 basketball records at Century and averaged 11 points last season.
