An undercover operation by police working to control drug sales and related crime in the Shalimar Street area resulted in the arrest of 21 people on Friday, police said.

While conducting a reverse sting operation, undercover officers from the Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach police departments offered for sale a substance similar to rock cocaine, said Costa Mesa police Sgt. Loren Wyrick.

Of those arrested, he said, 19 were charged with soliciting the purchase of cocaine. Five of those 19 also were charged with probation violations because of previous convictions for drug-related sales. In addition, a man and a male juvenile were arrested for the sale of rock cocaine, Wyrick said. The names of those arrested were not available.
