Beach District Power Stems From Unity

Share

* I’m disturbed when I hear a beach resident say that the Channel Islands Beach Community Services District needs “political clout” (June 8, “Future Hazy for Beach Communities”).

The district has operated successfully for about 15 years. In fact, it has become a role model in Ventura County. I believe that one reason for its success is that it has steered clear of partisan politics, and it should stay that way.

Beach people are individualists. That is reflected in their lifestyle. But let some outside influence try to change our way of life, and we unite. I cite our latest accomplishment: the efforts of the ad hoc citizens committee in making the Channel Islands Beach Improvement Project a reality.

I feel confident that the beach people will respond collectively, once again, to meet these new challenges and will make the correct decisions without annexation to adjacent communities. Never forget, our unity is our clout.
